Impact VA

Impact VADo you work from home? Then, this one’s for you…

Little did I know that when I became a Virtual Assistant and a business owner that I would have the desire to start blogging and reaching out to women who were in the same boat as me. It was through my VA network that I realised there were so many women just like me making a go of entrepreneurship in some form or another and that was just in the VA industry!

“I’m starting to wonder whether I started blogging because I wanted to offer interaction, connection and support to you or whether it’s because I needed that interaction, connection and support from you.”

The struggle is real…

I started to notice that a lot of women were struggling in one way or another. Struggling with confidence to put it out to the world that they were embarking on the new and exciting journey of running a small business. Struggling to overcome their fears and find clients. And struggling to find a balance between work, their relationships, their health and their social life.

Becoming a VA is a very freeing venture for some, allowing you to work on your terms, to work when you want or spend a day at the beach instead. But I have found the comfort of working from my home, especially during covid, a little too comfortable and now I struggle to want to go out at all. In my mind I’m grappling with the need to make money 9-5 Monday to Friday versus the need to go for a walk each morning before I sit at my desk in the comfort of my home.

Impact VAWhat do I need most?

Well as much as I need exercise and be healthy, I really really need money to support my family. And so I choose to sit at my desk mostly Monday to Friday, nine to five. And then the other parts of my life get neglected.

Last week though I took a half day off and went shopping because I really needed a new outfit for my Mum’s memorial that’s coming up. It felt so darn fabulous to have the freedom to just get up and go without having to answer to anyone or fill out a leave form. And I realised I need to do more of that. More prioritising me, more harmony. And that is what this blog is all about!

The Work from Home’r Syndrome

So if you’re a Virtual Assistant or a work from home’r, I get it. You have the Syndrome too. You must please your clients and you must pay the bills but you also have to go to the gym and have a coffee with a friend. It’s hard to work out in your head what’s most important but if truth be told, it’s all important. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t run a successful business if your health is not in order.

What is one thing you can do today, for you and your health?  I think it’s pretty simple.

  • Get out from behind your desk

  • Go for a walk in the sunshine

  • Meet a friend for a coffee

Impact VANow I’m going to take my own advice and get out of the house.

The work will still be here tomorrow.
